Generic Update

Thank you all for the 2K of pageviews, and from all over the world, too! Maybe this "internet" thing is catching on?

Finally finishing off the last DVDs of the original Armored Trooper V.O.T.O.M.S. TV series which aired in 1983 & 1984. Watched it years ago on VHS, felt it was time to view it again. It’s a touching, timeless romance/real mecha show: boy finds enhanced super-warrior girl during a galactic war, boy looses enhanced super-warrior girl to a secret society, boy pursues enhanced super-warrior girl through various warzones… You get the idea. *sniff* There's something in my eye.

Most projects are on hold until after COLD WARS, where I’ll be running two games of Giant Stompy Robot Gladiators using Meka Tac – Giant Stompy Robots Edition: F-270 on Friday at 10:00 AM, and S-271 on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Managed to play a game of One Page Fleets using the ship cards last weekend and it worked as expected, provided everyone is familiar with polyhedral dice. The step down/up by die type mechanic can be a bit confusing to the uninitiated. May get another game in on Tuesday.

The “generic dungeon crawl with miniatures” game is in stasis, though its mechanics may surface in another medium.

Sunder the Stars will be given a test drive after the convention to see if it works the way it was intended. If so, it may branch out to other types of warfare.

Still painting, just nothing new finished.

That’s about it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Yes! More Giant Stompy Robot Goodness!

HOUSE RULES : Environmental Rules Updated and Campaign Rules Updated!

Sorry about the wait between updates. Currently converting Meka Tac into a starship battle game, which, when ready, shall be posted on Giant Stompy Robot. Yes other folks have done it before, but I'm trying to simplify it a bit with less record keeping.

The dungeon crawl game is trundling along, with
Advanced Dungeon Squad currently in the lead for character creation and monster stats. Just need to add a simple square grid movement system. Please post here if anyone knows of free 25mm printable fantasy standees to use as adventurers, monsters, props, etc. As much as it'll be designed as a miniature game, not everyone who would want to play it will have miniatures.

Even More GIANT STOMPY ROBOTS Goodness!

LINKS : 12 New 6mm Miniatures Manufacturers Added!

Work has also started on the combined arms rules for support units in Meka Tac - GSRE! Nothing posted yet, as I'd like to get a few games in before the work in progress becomes available for general consumption.

No, the dungeon crawl has not been abandoned, just put on the back burner for a week or two. Found a few other goodies that have muddied the waters a bit.

NEW PROJECT! A Dungeon Crawl!

As everything needed for the MEKA TAC - GSRE game is ready for Fall In!, work has begun on finding/making a fast dungeon crawl. Been playing around with tiles (5 1-inch squares by 5 1-inch squares) and that gets 2 tiles printed on each page. Using gray card-stock saves on ink.

I'd like it to be easy enough to run at cons yet deep enough to run a campaign with the club. Rules in the running:

Citadel of Blood (1980) - Need to convert it to miniatures.

Melee/Wizard/The Fantasy Trip (1977) - A bit much for a convention game.

WarEngine 2.1 (2000) - Some tweaking to get it from Sci Fi to Medieval Fantasy.

One Page Fantasy Skirmish (?) - Need to redo the entire magic system.

Where Heroes Dare! (2009) - Great pulp rules, but the melee rules would have to be rewritten and combat magic added.

Dark Dungeon (2006) - A simple dungeon crawl game that might fit the bill.

No winner yet, but...

I'm currently reading through DARK DUNGEON by Avalon Game Company. It looks very promising. Got the "all in one bundle" and printed out the more pertinent parts. It's more of a miniature solo game set in a dungeon than a lite RPG. It can easily take multiple players. Combat system looks sound and the monsters/NPCs each have their own reaction tables right on their stat cards.

Drawbacks -

1) Though the game seems quite playable - it needs a proofreader. Badly.

2) Base game does not come with a way to create your own characters. Must buy the additional supplement for those rules. That comes in the bundle, though.

I'll be getting a couple of games in after Fall In!

We shall see.
